Overview

Imposter Game - Codewords ("the App") is a social deduction word game for 3–20 players, available in both pass-and-play (single device) and online multiplayer modes. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

The App does not require account creation, login, or any personal information to function. Data collected depends on which mode you use:

  • Pass-and-play mode: Player names, scores, settings, and saved groups are stored only on your device and never transmitted to our servers.
  • Online multiplayer mode: When you create or join an online room, your chosen player name, a randomly generated anonymous device ID, and in-game actions (votes, scores, game phase) are temporarily stored on our servers to facilitate the live session. No email, phone number, or personal account is required or collected.
  • Achievement progress: Tracked locally on your device and synced with platform-provided services (e.g., Game Center). We do not have access to your profile or social data.
  • Anonymous telemetry: We collect limited, anonymized app usage data (such as app opens, game starts, platform, locale, and app version) to improve the App. This data is linked to a randomly generated anonymous ID — not to your name, email, or any personally identifiable information.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

  • Advertising — Google AdMob: The free version of the App displays advertisements through Google AdMob, Google's mobile advertising platform. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect device identifiers (such as your device's advertising ID — IDFA on iOS or the Advertising ID on other platforms), IP address, approximate location, and app usage statistics (e.g., ad views, click-throughs) to serve relevant ads, measure performance, and prevent fraud. You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or in your device's privacy settings.
  • In-App Purchases: Subscriptions and purchases are handled natively through the platform's app store. All payment processing is managed entirely by the platform. We do not have access to your payment information.
  • Online Multiplayer Infrastructure: Online game sessions are powered by a cloud database provider. Temporary session data (player name, anonymous device ID, game state) is stored for the duration of the game session and automatically deleted when the lobby is closed.
  • Cloud Services: Game content such as word categories, translations, and AI-powered hints are provided through cloud-based services. No personal data is sent in these requests — only game-related information (e.g., word category, language preference).
  • Achievements & Leaderboards: The App may integrate with platform-provided achievement and leaderboard services (e.g., Game Center on iOS). These are managed entirely by the platform through your account. We do not access your social graph or profile information.
  • AI Features: AI-generated hints and word explanations are powered by a third-party AI service via a server-side function. Only the game word, category name, and language code are sent — no personal or device-identifying information.

Advertising & Data Collection

The free version of the App displays advertisements served through Google AdMob, which may include ads from Google and its partner ad networks. Through the Google Mobile Ads SDK, the following data may be collected for ad delivery and measurement:

  • Device advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on other platforms)
  • IP address
  • Approximate location (with your permission, where applicable)
  • Device model, OS version, and screen resolution
  • App usage statistics (session frequency, ad impressions, click-throughs)

This data is used for:

  • Serving relevant advertisements
  • Measuring ad performance and conversions
  • Fraud prevention and security
  • Interest-based (personalized) advertising

Premium subscribers and users who purchased "Remove Ads" are not shown advertisements and the ad SDK is not initialized.

Consent Management (GDPR / CCPA)

The App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to manage advertising consent. If you are in a region that requires consent (such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California), a consent form will be presented before any personalized ads are served. You may:

  • Review and update your consent preferences at any time from the App's settings ("Privacy options")
  • Opt out of personalized advertising via your device settings (App Tracking Transparency / Limit Ad Tracking on iOS, or your device's Ads settings)
  • Manage Google ad personalization at adssettings.google.com
  • Opt out of interest-based ads from third-party networks at youronlinechoices.eu (EU) or aboutads.info/choices (US)

In-App Purchases

The App offers optional premium subscriptions and a one-time "Remove Ads" purchase through the platform's app store. All payment processing is handled entirely by the platform. We do not have access to your payment information, credit card details, or billing address.

Children's Privacy

The App is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). The App does not require any personal information to function. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

Data Retention

Local game data (player names, scores, settings, saved groups) is stored on your device and removed when you uninstall the App.

Online multiplayer session data (player name, anonymous device ID, game state) is stored temporarily on our servers for the duration of an active game lobby. Lobbies are automatically purged when closed or after a short period of inactivity. We do not retain this data beyond the active session.

Third-party services (such as Google AdMob and its advertising partners) may retain data per their own privacy policies. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details on their data retention practices.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is no personal data for us to access, modify, or delete. However, you have the following rights:

  • Local data: You can clear all local App data by uninstalling the App or clearing app storage in your device settings.
  • Ad tracking: You can opt out of personalized ads through your device's privacy settings or via Google Ads Settings.
  • Consent withdrawal: You can withdraw or change your consent for personalized advertising at any time via the "Privacy options" control in the App's settings or through your device settings.
  • Achievements: You can manage your achievement and leaderboard data through your platform account settings.
  • Data held by Google: To learn about or control data processed by Google for advertising, visit Google's Privacy Policy.

International Users

The App is available worldwide. Game data is processed locally on your device. AI-powered features route through servers that may be located in different regions. No personal data is transmitted in these requests. Advertising data collected by Google AdMob may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you consent to such transfers as described in Google's Privacy Policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
